Download 'Education for Pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorders - highlights the variety of provision and arrangements for meeting the needs of pupils with ASD. This report was produced in response to the request of the Scottish Ministers that HM Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) carry out a task to evaluate and report on the educational provision for pupils with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). As part of that task, HMIE was charged with identifying good practice and making recommendations for moving forward. Download by clicking here

Download 'Literature review of Autism - The National Centre for Autism Studies was commissioned to provide an up to date literature review of autism, which will provide background to the investigation of the current provision for children with ASD in Scotland. In accordance with requirements this review contains:
• Background to autism, its causes and diagnosis
• Information about the range of approaches used to teach children with autism, and
the extent of use of each approach. This will include information from the United
Kingdom and from international studies
• A collation of the published evidence of the effectiveness of the various
approaches.

Download the 'Autism Toolbox' - A new resource to help schools meet the needs of children with autism has been launched.The Autism Toolbox, which has been sent to every school and education authority in Scotland, draws on practical examples, literature and research to give guidance to councils and support to schools. It is funded by the Scottish Government and developed by the National Centre for Autism Studies at the University of Strathclyde.
Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Early Years, said that young people with autism deserve the opportunity to gain the most they can from a supportive education system.
